Hi,

We just downloaded the trial version and are evaluating using it for a client. The product looks like a good fit for our client and we assume we'll move forward with it, but do need your input on licensing.

We do not offer a hosting service and so our client production sites are located on third party hosts such as 3Essentials, PowerDNN or other third parties. We keep a copy of the their site locally for two purposes. One is as a catastrophic offsite backup. It appears, this purpose is included in both your license models. Is this correct?

The second purpose is for enhancements and testing of the site. While some of our clients sites are pretty static, we have some that are constantly evolving. We add new functionality that weren't previously included such as videos or a blog or even changing the skins so they have a new look and feel. New versions of your product and of DNN would be validated this way. BTW, we do not modify the code of any Core DNN modules or any extensions even if we have the source. That is not our expertise. We have found it is often much better to do testing, development and validation on our local servers rather than on the host. Speed and reliability are the main factors in doing it this way. Once we're satisfied we'll move the site to production. We can discuss the merits of our development approach as opposed to others for hours, but this has served us well when extensive changes are involved. And now the question. It appears neither your Single Portal nor Single Host license covers this approach and that a separate license would be required. Is this correct and, if so, are there any alternatives you may be able to work out for our clients?

The third question has to do with moving the license as directly related to our current client. We'll develop locally and then move it to the production host. At least for this initial move, can the license be transferred?

We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time.

Cheers,

Larry

Hi Larry,

The production sites would obviously need to be licensed, however we have developer licenses that we can issue so you can use these in non-production websites. This would allow you to license your development stores and complete any testing / upgrades. So you would not need to worry about transferring your licenses from dev to production as each instance would have its own license.

Thanks
Nigel.
