Hi,

Is there a way to specify an icon for the menu items. I would like to have an icon at the left side of the category name.

Hi Paul

The easier way to do this effect is to modify the CSS in the StoreFront.css file.

I've attached a simple change I've applied to the menu to add a small triangle to the left of each sub category.

Example Menu with images

I've highlighted the simple change I made in FireBug to make this change.
Add in a background image, turn on no-repeat, set the image offset then pad the box so that the left is moved to the right of the icon.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your quick response. I didn't explain my problem very well. I want a different icon for each menu item, an icon that is defined at category level. e.g. when the category is Curls then I want to display curls.png, if the coategory is Tubes then I want to display tubes.png at the left side.

An alternative would be if I could use the DNN V2 menu for my categories and subcategories.

Best regards,
Paul.

Hi Paul

Apologies for misunderstanding you question.

We dont have the ability to define an image for each category however I can think of a couple of work a rounds.
1. As you state you could just make the category menu list using html or a existing module which allows you to create a menu. The links in the category menu are straight forward HTML A tags.

2. More advanced option is that we or you could create you're own custom menu module which uses the business logic in Cart Viper to render the menu. Since the module is custom you'll then be able to style it as required, so for example you could check the name of the category when outputting the html and based in it display the icon/image as required.

I also think you could implement something similar to option 2 but using the existing category menu module, then you could use some jQuery client side script to apply the correct image/css based on category. I'm not sure how this would affect performance and if they would be a second or two between the menu getting rendered and the jQuery applying the styles.

Regards

Mark
